Tomjachu Bush Retreat is the perfect escape for an extended safari holiday over a long weekend to escape from city life this year.
It’s time for a safari holiday! Tomjachu Bush Retreat, situated just outside Nelspruit, is a wonderland of natural splendor and the perfect place to unwind and get your groove back.
In today’s modern age, we have become dependent on our creature comforts at home and spend most of our lives indoors.
“Mother Nature has the power to please, to comfort, to calm, and to nurture one’s soul.” – Anthony Douglas Williams
It has been proven that being surrounded by nature can lower the levels of stress hormones. Spending time in nature can have a soothing effect on your nervous system too.
There are quite a few long weekends in the calendar this year, giving you the perfect excuse to get out of the city and enjoy a longer break by tagging on a day either side.
Here is a great itinerary suggestion for a slightly longer stay at Tomjachu:
Day one – After your arrival and check in, settle into your accommodation at leisure and just take the rest of the day off. Why not? How often do you just sit and do absolutely nothing, laze in a hammock reading a book, or get to enjoy a spectacular view?
Day two – Get your first fix of nature by taking a self-guided walking trail or bike ride around the reserve. There is also a challenging climb to the top of Zebra heights at 1030m; the highest point, and once you get to the top it is absolutely magical. You get a bird’s eye view of the whole property in all its splendor and with views as far as the eye can see. And there’s a good chance you’ll encounter some of the many indigenous animals on the reserve, including giraffe and our lovely zebra. Why not wander down the Voortrekker trail lined with streams and waterfalls, and allow yourself to be hypnotised by the trickling water. End the day by enjoying dinner in the comfort and warmth of the Homestead and let our chefs prepare you a delicious meal made with locally sourced ingredients.
Day three – The next day you should be well rested and ready to visit the Kruger National Park which is situated just 45 minutes’ drive from Tomjachu. Depart early with your guide in a private game viewer for an in depth safari holiday experience taking in the breathtaking Bushveld and its’ diverse wildlife. The Kruger is a Big 5 Experience so you will no doubt encounter lots of elephants, buffalo and possibly lions or even rhino, if you are lucky. A packed breakfast basket is included that you can enjoy en route and there will be a lunch stop at one of the camps on the way back. Tonight maybe pre-order a cottage meal or braai pack (for the full South African experience!) that can be delivered and enjoyed in the privacy of your own accommodation.
Day four – Get woken by the sound of birds in the morning and let us pack breakfast for you on the go, and set out on a day trip to explore the beautiful Panorama route. Centered around the Blyde River Canyon, this scenic drive takes you past several cultural and natural attractions. Get to experience Mac Mac falls, Bourke’s Luck Potholes and God’s Window.
Tonight, a truly unique experience awaits you on your return. Get taken on a short nature drive at sunset to one of the many beautiful spots on the reserve for an unforgettable evening with dinner under the stars. Soak in the beauty and the sounds of the Bushveld around a crackling fire, sipping fine wine and sitting down to a delicious meal with the orchestra of the bushveld sounds your only company.
Day five – Why not end off your stay with a guided bush walk at Tomjachu before you leave. A knowledgeable guide will lead you around the reserve along trails and animals paths and past the watering holes and dams focusing on the smaller things on the reserve, to get your last nature fix before leaving this slice of heaven behind and heading home.
