Secrets of nature at Tomjachu
Get into Nature
At Tomjachu we have a plethora of natural wonders waiting to be discovered. From the surrounding Bekker Mountains to the open bushveld that lays waiting for avid explorers who need an escape. The retreat offers a number of nature experiences, so we focused on a top three list for your bushveld getaway:
Matumi Picnic Spot
Tomjachu offers a number of picnic spots that can be visited during your stay. However, Matumi seems to hold a certain charm that can only be found within the tranquil bushveld amongst towering Matumi trees and a trickling stream. Matumi is great for visitors who want to go hiking with a picnic basket in one arm and binoculars in hand, as the valley in which it lies boasts wonderful birdlife. Larger animals such as zebra and giraffe can be seen roaming the plains en route. Picnic baskets can be prepared by the head chef upon request.
Tomjachu Hill
Tomjachu Hill is a natural wonder found on the property and can be seen from the Homestead looking due East where the sun rises on the distant mountain range. This spectacular ancient granite dome is a short hike away, and can also be visited on a nature drive. The peak of the dome is a great place to observe the Retreat, with a 360degree view of the reserve. Indulge in a sundowner in the late afternoon, watching the sky begin to resemble an artist’s pallet before sunset.
The Gorge
The Gorge is certainly a favourite, as it effortlessly embodies the true majesty of natural forces! Forged over centuries by water carving its way through the granite hills, the Gorge offers a space where you can clear your mind while being surrounded by absolute grandeur, untamed landscapes and the peacefulness of the African bush. The Gorge drops steeply down towards Gordon’s Pools and thick bushveld below where klipspringers and duikers are often spotted. It is a truly peaceful corner of the African bush.
