Welcome to your home in the bush! Nestled among the rolling mountains of the Lowveld in the heart of Mpumalanga, Tomjachu Bush Retreat awaits you. Once a family home, our award-winning, owner-run retreat resides within its own private nature reserve, just 15 km outside Nelspruit. It is the ideal destination for those seeking to unwind and relax in nature, while also offering a range of activities for adventure seekers. Here, you can explore the abundant natural wonders which inhabit our 500-hectare property, whilst enjoying the elegant comfort of our unique accommodation.

Our Bush Dinner is a truly unforgettable experience. Watch the mountains turn pink in the fading sunset light on a nature drive before meandering down the valley to be welcomed by a crackling fire, and the scent of delicious food being prepared. Dinner is served under the canopy of the night sky with only the sounds of the trilling nightjars to enhance the tranquillity.
Unique locations for your special celebrations
Tomjachu Bush Retreat is a perfect location for intimate destination weddings, offering stunning bush locations for your ceremony, and beautiful accommodation for up to 32 people.
We cater for small to medium weddings, from just the two of you, up to a maximum of 80 guests. On the reserve we have a number of unique locations where ceremonies and receptions can be held, all with incredible mountain views creating the perfect backdrop for your special day. If being out in the bush isn’t your cup of tea, the lawns at our Historic Homestead beneath the shade of a giant fig tree, or at our exclusive Valbonne Villa, offer a more traditional alternative.

Spotted around Tomjachu - the White-fronted Bee-eater.
One of the more colourful visitors to the Lowveld, these birds are easy to recognise by their bright green bodies, red throats, and flashes of blue on their wings. They’re often found near water, where they catch insects mid-air - especially bees and other flying insects.
Listen out for their soft, chattering calls as they move through the trees, usually in small groups.

Originally the family home of Gordon and Vikki Fillery, The Homestead remains a central part of Tomjachu today.
Set amongst gardens with views over the surrounding bushveld, it offers a relaxed and comfortable stay for individuals, couples, and small families or groups.
The Homestead includes three individual bedrooms - one in the main house and two in the garden wing - each with its own private veranda. Guests can enjoy an à la carte breakfast on the veranda overlooking the Bekker Mountains, and in the evening, a three-course dinner in the Homestead dining room after sundowners.
Shared spaces include comfortable living areas and a swimming pool with views across the reserve.

Tranquil waters at South Dam.
Just a short walk from the Homestead, our largest dam is a peaceful spot to spend some time in nature. It’s home to a variety of birdlife, including Knob-billed ducks, Spur-wing geese, Giant Kingfishers and African Fish Eagles. You might also spot terrapins on the rocks or water monitors moving quietly along the edge.
This is also where guests will enjoy a bush breakfast during our upcoming nature retreat.
A simple, quiet place to slow down and take it all in.

Spotted in the Tomjachu trees.
The Southern White-faced Owl - small, alert, and impossible to forget once those bright eyes meet yours.
With its soft grey back, bold white face edged in black, and vivid orange eyes, it stands out even in the fading light. Larger than the African Scops Owl, it carries a compact, upright posture, its facial disc sharply defined and full of character.
Look closely and you’ll notice the fine markings across its feathers, perfectly suited for blending into the woodland.
By day, it sits quietly among the branches.
By night, its rapid, rolling call echoes through the bush.
